Taufiequrrachman Ruki Elected Chairman of KPK

VIVAnews - 5 years ago today, on 16 December 2003, Taufiequrrachman Ruki, was elected Chairman of KPK.

After undergoing two days of fit and proper test, on 16 December 2003, the House of Representatives elected five of ten commissioner candidates of KPK. After winning the vote, Taufiequrrachman Ruki was elected chairperson of the KPK by the House. He beat Marsilam Simandjuntak, the other candidate, by a considerable margin.  

Ruki was a retired major general of the police and former member of the House. Other elected commissioners of the KPK included Amien Sunaryadi, former Financial and Development Supervisory Board (BPKP) official, Sjahruddin Rasul, former deputy of BPKP, Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, former state attorney, and Erry Riyana Hardjapemekas former president director of PT Timah.

On 29 December 2003, the five commissioners of KPK were sworn in by President Megawati Sukarnoputri. Ruki retired from the KPK on 18 December 2007. He was replaced by former state attorney, Antasari Azhar, who became the chairperson of the KPK until today.
