Israel’s Attacks are “Premeditated”

VIVAnews – In light of the recent violent attacks launched by the Israeli Military against Palestine in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Fariz Mehdawi, shared his views on the issue when interviewed by VIVAnews on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

According to Ambassador Mehdawi, the attacks are not a mere reaction towards actions by Hamas along the border. “We feel that the new escalation of Israel is premeditated. This is not a reaction. This is something which has been planned for sometime,” he said.

Ambassador Mehdawi feels that Israel running away from their obligation towards peace, especially given the fact that the attacks are launched at the end of the year. “For Israel to end the year by launching an offensive while our civil population gather, means that they are running away from their obligation towards reaching a solution. But rather they prefer to continue this conflict on military basis,” said Mehdawi.

Ambassador Mehdawi believes that there are three reasons why this offensive is being launched against Palestine. First, Israel wants to show the world its military capabilities. “To restore the image of the Israeli army that they are still capable and they have powerful deterrence,” said Mehdawi.

The second reason is the timing of the offense which is related to internal politics of Israel. “All the time whenever there is some elections inside Israel, most of the extreme leaders in Israel would like to show how much they are strong and normally they launch an offensive against the Palestinians. They think that we are the soft target that we can help and show their muscles and their power of deterrence,” Mehdawi said.

And finally, Ambassador Mehdawi feels that the transition of administration in the United States also play a significant role in that they do not have to be worried about a grave international outcry. “Israel is taking advantage of reality that there is vacuum of power in the United States that they can do it and without too much concern about international community,” said Mehdawi during his interview with VIVAnews.
