VIVAnews - The House of Representatives (DPR) is crafting a Draft Bill on Intelligence in which one of the articles specifies about the National Intelligence Agency's authority in tapping.

Chief of the Constitutional Court Mahfud MD said tapping is legal as long as it does not violate civilians' constitutional rights.

"The Constitution in principle grants authority to law enforcement agencies to do tappings," said Mahfud today, March 22.

According to Mahfud, people may propose for a judicial review against the Law on Intelligence if it is considered breaching constitutional rights.

Tapping is tolerable, "as long as it is regulated."

Chief of the National Intelligence Agency, General Sutanto, said the tapping mechanism has yet to be prepared.
