VIVAnews - Governor of Bengkulu, Agusrin M Nahamudin, was sentenced to four years and six months of imprisonment for allegedly embezzling provincial budget worth Rp21.3 billion.

"Prosecutors demanded that the defendant pay Rp500 million of compensation and six months of subsidiary imprisonment," said a prosecutor, Sunarta, on Tuesday, at Central Jakarta District Court.

Prosecutors stated that Agusrin was guilty of abusing his office to make some profit for himself.

"What's incriminating is that he cannot get to the point in providing information. He also hampers the government's programs in fighting against corruption," Sunarta said.

Agusrin's legal adviser, Martin Pongrekun, wanted a week recess to Chief of the Panel of Judges, Syarifuddin.

Agusrin is may be subject to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a maximum fine of Rp1 billion.
