Most Indonesians Cut Household Spending

VIVAnews - Global online survey that Nielsen carried out reveals that 54 percent of Indonesian respondents believe the nation is in the midst of economic crisis. However, the number decreases by five percent compared to the second quarter of 2011 at 59 percent.

Nielsen Indonesia Managing Director, Catherine Eddy, said the global economic downturn has affected the perspective of consumers in Indonesia.

"77 percent of Indonesians say they will cut household spending," said Catherine in Jakarta, today.

Nielsen said 52 percent of Indonesian consumers call of plans of buying new gadgets. In addition, 49 percent of consumers also plan to postpone the purchase of new clothing; 48 percent of consumers reduce leisure time outside of their homes; while 36 percent of consumers avoid holiday trips.

Amidst the crisis in Europe and the United States, Indonesia's confidence index rises from 112 to 114. Indonesia is only behind India (121) and Saudi Arabia (120).

"Indonesia is listed top three after India and Saudi Arabia on consumer's confidence index," she said.
