VIVAnews – Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, viewed that Chinese culture is a sub-cultural part of Indonesia. The Chinese culture has integrated into Indonesia’s culture. Sultan confirmed that culture may become a way out of political boredom.

Sri Sultan mentioned this when opening Yogyakarta’s Chinese Cultural Week (PBTY) VII, last night.

According to Sultan, the creation of various art works is a form of cultural acculturation that must be preserved.  One of the ways to preserve this is through the annual Yogyakarta’s Chinese Cultural Week.

“My hope is that the event will be better and better every year. In a sense, the cultural channeling is expected to show a way out from political boredom,” said Sultan.

Meanwhile, the Committee's Chairman, Tri Kirana Muslidatun, said the event has 68 bazaar participants and 48 cultural groups of Yogyakarta. In addition, there are also liong shows and potehi puppets everyday from 6 PM to 8 PM.

“The highlight of the event will be the Jogja Dragon Festival in Malioboro which will show 12 liong groups and 22 carnival participants as well as the nation’s record-breaking lantern dragon of 136 meters,” said Tri Kirana.

In Ketandan Village, Malioboro, thousands of people were packing the opening of the Yogyakarta’s Chinese Cultural Week. All kinds of Chinese culinary meals were lining up along the city’s Chinatown area.
