VIVAnews – Former Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK), Jimly Asshiddiqie, viewed that Indonesia now witnesses crisis in its justice system.

“The law is only considered a neatly-typed piece of paper. The contents are however not about the values of justice, but of regulations,” said Jimly today.

He said that the law in Indonesia has yet to be held supreme.

“Poor people who steal slippers or plates were punished. Actually, a slap on the face or even a warning could have made the culprits realized his/her mistake,” he said.

“It’s different from the treatment to the rich people who steal Rp100 billion, who clearly violate the law and the people’s hearts. We are supposed to uphold the sense of justice,” he said.

Jimly said that a just nation needs reform of law.

All parties must be actively involved in the process, he said.
