Three Options for Situ Gintung Lake

VIVAnews - A team from the Department of Public Works is weighing three options that will be taken over the Situ Gintung dam, Cirendeu, Tangerang, following the incident occurred last week which has so far claimed more than 90 lives.

In accordance with a meeting involving Jusuf Kalla, the three options include reconstructing Situ Gintung dam, returning the lake to its nature, and combining both options.
 
According to Head of Center for Public Communications at the Department of Public Works, Amwazi Idrus, the team is evaluating the condition of Situ Gintung. "The team works all day, evaluating the best option for Situ Gintung," he said on Wednesday, April 1.

In addition to reviewing Situ Gintung, he said, the Department of Public Works is looking into around 202 lakes in Jabodetabek area. "80 out of the listed lakes have been rehabilitated," said Idrus.
 
He again said that the cost of the rehabilitation will depend on the lakes' total area as well as the damaged area. As regards population relocation, it will rely on the research. "Some will be relocated," he said.
 
Meanwhile, in Situ Gintung, the Department of Public Works continue search efforts by using heavy equipment and public facilities. The department arranges nine units of heavy equipment to clean up the debris; five water containers; five hydrants; mobile water purifiers; and one mobile toilet.
