Hanura & Gerindra May Embrace Golkar Voters

VIVAnews - Former chairperson of the Functional Group (Golkar) Party Akbar Tandjung is still optimistic that the party will still gain top positions in the coming Elections. Tandjung predicted Golkar will garner votes around 16 to 20 percent.

His optimism was based on the performances of Golkar's legislative candidates. "[They] have more knowledge and ability to campaign themselves to the public," he said on Tuesday, April 7.

Tandjung said that Golkar possesses high quality legislator candidates in providing political awareness to the society. Golkar, experiencing many years as a major and ruling party in Indonesia, has always been referred and trusted by the society. Thus they would put their political choice to the party's legislative candidates. "This will definitely increase the votes for Golkar party," he added.

Tandjung said that obtaining 20 percent vote is not easy. In addition, there are new parties that are quite appealing. Yet, their performance attracts the public. He also cited that Golkar voters will take Wiranto of the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) and Prabowo Subianto of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) as consideration.

"Both [Wiranto and Subianto] are known as Golkar's political figures joined in the 2004 convention. That will also affect Golkar's voters," he added.
