VIVAnews - Chief of Crime and Investigation Division at the National Police Headquarters, Comm. Gen. Ito Sumardi, said in a statement that former mid-ranking tax official, Gayus Tambunan, who is now undergoing court sessions on charges of corruption, had been backed up with financial aid during his jail terms.
"It's a businessman, a rich man," Ito told reporters today, Jan 11, 2011. However, Ito assured the press that the man behind Gayus is only an ordinary guy. "He's not a top figure," he said.
When asked for more statements, Chief of National Police Gen. Timur Pradopo did not say much. "The investigation is on the go," he replied.
Earlier, Commissioner Ito said the police found that SuperGayus, a name given by the press to exalt the taxman, was financially supported by an Indonesian affluent person during his imprisonment at Police Mobile Brigade prison.
As reported, Gayus was proved buzzing about Bali, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and China while he was behind the bars.
