Fuel Consumption in Indonesia Rises 9 Pct

VIVAnews - The high monthly rate of vehicle growth of six percent leads to increase in fuel consumption. In January 2011, the consumption rate of premium fuel grew 9.39 percent compared to last year.

According to data of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association, car sales was high at 764,000 units. In addition, motorbike sales also recorded boom at 7.3 million units, which is deemed the sharpest in recent years.

Data from Downstream Oil and Gas Regulator (BPH Migas) shows that fuel consumption in January 2011 totaled to 3.26 million kiloliters. The amount consists of Premium fuel at 1.987 million kiloliters, diesel fuel, 1.162 million kiloliters, and kerosene, 1.162 million kiloliters. Compared to January 2010, the fuel consumption hiked 9.39 percent; diesel fuel increased 9.13 percent; and kerosene dropped 31.9 percent totalling to 3.073 kiloliters.

BPH Migas, said Tubagus, will be monitoring the distribution of subsidized fuel. According to him, people have yet to be involved in panic buying following the government's plan of controlling subsidized fuel.
