VIVAnews - A bomb assembled on a book exploded today at a prominent cultural enclave in Jakarta, Komunitas Utan Kayu. Two police officers and a security officer are seriously wounded from the explosion. The compound is home to news agency KBR 68H, the Liberal Islam Network, and Tempo Cafe.
The injured police officers are Chief of Crime and Investigation Department at East Jakarta Police Department, Dudi Rahmawan, and Adj. Comm. Arliman. The three victims are now under medical treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.
The package was addressed to Ulil Abshar Abdalla, an Islamic scholar affiliated to the Liberal Islam Network. He comes from a family of Nahdlatul Ulama background. In 2003, a group of Indonesian Islamic cleric from Forum Ulama Umat Islam issued a death fatwa against Ulil for an article that Ulil wrote in Kompas in 2002, "Menyegarkan Kembali Pemahaman Islam" (Rejuvenating the Islamic Understanding) that is considered heretical by the clerics.
