VIVAnews - Freeport zone in Papua, eastern Indonesia, was yesterday a target of terror as mysterious gunmen aimed fires at the mining area of PT Freeport Tembagapura.
The shooting took place as a Toyota LWB was heading back toward Kali Kopi in mile 37 from TRMP office at mile 39. Out of a sudden, the car was gunned down from ahead by unindentified shooters. The car's windshield was broken. The shooters also attacked the left side of the car.
The driver, Abdul Simanjuntak, was wounded as some fractions of the projectiles hit his back. Meanwhile, Agus Patah, who was sitting next to the driver's seat, got out alive.
Freeport spokesperson Ramdani Sirait has confirmed of the incident today. "There has been indeed a shooting in Freeport. Two [Freeport] employers aboard the car are suffering from light injuries," he said.
Freeport mining zones in Papua have been subject to recurrent shootings committed by unknown people since July 2009. On January 24, 2010, a convoy of the company's cars were shot. Eight people were wounded during the incident.
