VIVAnews - Indonesian ship MV Sinar Kudus has been under the control of Somali pirates for 31 days today. The Indonesian government has yet to set out any immediate action to release the hostages.
Yunita, wife to Sinar Kudus' navigator, Masbukhin, told VIVAnews that, based on the updates sent by the husband on Thursday, the ship crews called on either the government or ship owner PT Samudera Indonesia to settle the negotiation process as soon as possible.
"PT Samudera Indonesia must be firm in the negotiation process, for the ship may be taken over by other pirates," said Yunita quoting Masbukhin.
"Ransom demand will rise should this happen," she said.
Yunita and her families wanted PT Samudera Indonesia meet the pirates' demand. "If the negotiation prolongs, we're worried of my husband's work contract which will be due in six months. If the process takes more than six months, who will be held accountable of my husband's life?"
Two options are available for releasing the hostages: negotiations, or military operation. Yunita said the ship crews and their families prefer the first option to the second. "It's for the sake of ship crews' good," she said.
Earlier, Indonesian Military Chief, Admiral Agus Suhartono, said the Indonesian government agreed to negotiate further with the pirates.
However, he went on, the government will tackle the problem by launching a military operation.
