Telkom to Acquire Iran Telecom

VIVAnews - PT Telkom Tbk is ready to join a consortium which involves three foundations belonging to the Iranian government. The consortium will invest in Iran Telecom.

Chief Commissioner of PT Telkom Tbk Tanri Abeng said that the investment value is more than US$100 million. "It will be used to obtain shares from Iran Telecom. Then, an initial public offering (IPO) will be held," he told reporters on Friday, Jan 16.

Abeng, also former Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), said that the investment must first be reviewed carefully because of the high risk.

PT Telkom is for the time being discussing with its partners concerning share ownership that the consortium will set up. Abeng said he hoped the partnership contract can be signed during the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in next March.

Tanri Abeng once said that Indonesia has a bigger chance to invest in Iran compared to other Southeast Asian countries due to the good relationship between the two countries.

The share acquisition of Iran Telecom is planned to be carried out through Telkom's subsidiary PT Telekomunikasi International Indonesia. Despite the large amount of fund needed to acquire the Iranian telco company, Telkom will continue investing because the company has sound internal fund and low debts.
