VIVAnews – The Soekarno Hatta International Airport Customs and Excise officers foiled a methamphetamine, or shabu, smuggling from Togo, Africa. The mode of the smuggling was using courier company and the drugs is stuffed in spare parts.
"The content of the package was declared as a sample of spare parts," Oza Olavia, Soekarno Hatta Airport’s Head of Customs and Excise, told VIVAnews.com, Thursday, August 4, 2011.
According to Oza, the package originating from Togo, Africa was to be sent to an address in Pangkal Pinang, with the recipient's name initial A. "The meth with a gross weight of about 900 grams is worth Rp1.35 billion," he said.
Inside the piston in the package, two bags of meth were found, and inside a large threaded cylinder, the officers found a package of six pieces of clear crystals." After initial testing using narcotest, the clear crystals were positively methamphetamine or shabu," he said.
This was the first case disclosed by the discovery of Soekarno Hatta Airport customs and National Narcotics Agency (BNN) officers. Currently the officers are still in pursuit of the package recipient, who knew that the package was already under surveillance.
Meanwhile, for the exact ingredient of the goods, the officers run a laboratory testing and identification in Jakarta, and the result was it was positively methamphetamine.
