VIVAnews - The river current on Jalan Beringin, in a housing complex in Kranji, West Bekasi, was clogged by trash following the double railway project by PT Kereta Api (state railway company), at Kranji station.
Chief of citizen association (RW) 05, Perumnas I Bekasi, Asep Hariyanto, said that despite the low rainfall, the area in which they live will be directly inundated.
Waste accumulation is due to the narrowing of river which is resulted from the iron bridge through which heavy vehicles transport construction materials.
"The iron bridge was supported by coconut-tree-made poles," said Asep, today. Asep said floodwaters inundate four RWs.
Under normal conditions, the depth of the river is 1.5 meters. However, due to accumulation of trash and mud residue, the current depth is less than one meter.
The local neighborhood association has dredged the river. But the effort proves ineffective as it was blocked by an iron bridge.
The residents and the neighborhood association had filed complaints over the problem to the authority. However, no response has been made. The residents also complained to the Bekasi Regional Representative Council (DPRD) to seek dredging and the demolition of the iron bridge.
After an inspection to the river, Secretary of Commission A of Bekasi DPRD, Ariyanto Hendrata, said his party has asked the Highways and Water Management Service and Sanitation Service to immediately conduct the dredging.
