VIVAnews - Chief of Elections Commission (KPU), Abdul Hafiz Anshary, said the national participation of the general public in General Elections has been falling.
"There is this tendency that the elections participants are decreasing more and more each time the Election is held," he said, today.
"The 1971 Elections recorded 94 percent of people's participation, the 2004 Elections recorded 84 percent of participation, while the 2009 Elections only took 71 percent of support," he said.
Hafiz pointed out low voters' confidence toward the Elections Commission as the main factor of the poor participation.
In addition, voters have also lacked trust toward the elections candidates.
The many phases required to vote during the Elections are also blamed for the issue. "We have 497 regencies/municipalities and 33 provinces," he said. Moreover, a poll shows that voters are figured to have been upset toward certain voted candidates.
