VIVAnews - The negotiation between PT Freeport Indonesia and its workers was not going well. The company has yet to say yes to the employees' demand.

"Employees asked for salary rise on July 29. It was normal. But their demand was too high. They wanted to have US$35 per hour of payment. In the end, they held a rally. That's why there is this negotiation," said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik, today.

The central government was assigned a mediator for the talks. Any agreement is not yet made, but Wacik said the negotiation has developed. "Employees' demand fell to US$17.5 per hour. In November, the  employees on strike lowered their demand to US$4 per hour," he said.

"The management follows. Initially, they offered US$2.1 per hour, then US$2.4 per hour. In September, it was US$2.66. On 26 October, they raise it to US$2.73 per hour. This week, they set the pay at US$3.09 per hour," said Wacik.
