Indonesia House Elects New KPK Head

VIVAnews - Abraham Samad was elected the new Head of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after winning a poll set up by the House of Representatives (DPR). 

Commission III on Legal Affairs at DPR voted four KPK leaders for the 2011-2016 period. Two strong candidates namely Abdullah Hehamahua and Yunus Husein lost the poll.

The four elected KPK leaders - Abraham Samad, Bambang Widjojanto, Adnan Pandu Praja, and Zulkarnain - gained a total of 223 votes from 56 DPR members. 

The following are the final votes for the eight candidates of KPK heads:

1. Abraham Samad : 55

2. Ins. Gen. Pol (ret) Aryanto Sutadi : 3

3. Abdullah Hehamahua : 2

4. Handoyo Sudradjat : -

Each DPR member is granted the right to have four votes. Out of the supposed 224 votes, a DPR member is presumed of only giving three votes. 

During the second poll made to single out a candidate for KPK head, Abraham Samad won the count by 43 votes.
