VIVAnews - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik said the soaring subsidies for fuel and electricity worth Rp55 trillion is due to unexpected hike in the national automotive industry.
"40 million kiloliters of [fuel] subsidy was prepared. And it was not enough," he said today.
The growth of motorbikes by seven million units this year contributed to the rise in fuel subsidies. In addition, the number of cars sold this year reached 800,000 units.
"We also record progress in tourism sector. If it gets better, then more cars will use subsidized fuel," he said.
