2009 Elections

Yudhoyono's Cabinet Viewed as Not Solid

VIVAnews - Former Head of Functional Group (Golkar) Party, Akbar Tandjung, said that the current Cabinet under the Yudhoyono administration has no solidity.

"In fact, in the 2004 Presidential Elections, Yudhoyono received a majority of votes," said Tandjung on Wednesday, Feb 4.

Therefore, according to Tandjung, Yudhoyono should have prepared a Cabinet having the best figures so that the the government would have had a solid team.

However, he said, the Yudhoyono's Cabinet was prepared by focusing on an interest to accommodate various political interests.

As a result, said Tandjung, each Cabinet member has different views to each other concerning the policies that the President issued.

"It is already certain due to the fact that they [Cabinet members] include political figures and heads of political parties," said Tandjung.

In addition, Vice President Jusuf Kalla was permitted to also be in the office of Head of Golkar Party. As a result, said Tandjung, the two top state leaders are engaged in the competition of political advertisements in order to boost the popularity of each political party.

Tandjung said he hoped the next government will have a solid Cabinet. It can be put into effect if the President is capable of preparing a Cabinet which will not side with political parties' interests.
