VIVAnews – National Commission for Child Protection said child abortion between 2008 and 2010 has increased in rate. It is estimated that 62 percent of the abortion was done by underage youths.
Komnas Anak Secretary General, Samsul Ridwan, said that within these 2 years, abortion rate rose by 15 percent per year.
Two million abortion cases occurred until 2008. The number was added by 300 thousand abortions in 2009 and another 200,000 cases in 2010.
“The total number from 2008 to 2010 has been 2.5 million cases,” Samsul said today, Dec 20.
“As for 2011, there were 406 abortion cases in Jakarta.”
The most shocking thing is that, based on the data gathered by Komnas Anak, out of the 2.5 million abortions, 62.6 percent was done by underage children. “Most cases involve people under the age of 18,” Samsul said.
According to Samsul, there are four popular abortion methods. 37 percent was committed by curettage (cleaning the womb); 25 percent by oral and massage; 13 percent by injection; and 8 percent by inserting foreign objects into the womb.
“The rest by herbs and acupuncture,” Samsul said.
One of the reasons of the climbing abortion rate is, he said, that pornography is pervasive on the media. In 2011, Komnas Anak received 22 complaints about pornography.
Meanwhile, based on Yayasan Buah Hati’s data, about 83.7 percent of 5th and 6th grade students are addicted to pornography.
