VIVAnews – The Human Rights Commission has investigated the recent manslaughter that took place in Sungai Sodong village, Mesuji subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatra.
Deputy Head of the National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Ridha Saleh, said the incident was triggered by the death of two local villagers.
“Two local villagers died from the incident, as reported by residents,” Ridha Saleh told VIVAnews on Tuesday, Dec 20.
“One victim is called Indra. Wounds were found in his neck.”
Another dead victim was called Saetu, who was stabbed on his back.
“It was Saetu that was dying when his sibling found him. The sibling then asked Saetu who the culprit was,” Ridha said.
Saetu mentioned the people who stabbed him and killed Indra.
“They were security guards, private security guards and police forces,” Ridha said.
Local villagers then proceeded with a protest to PT SWA’s base camp. Five security guards working for PT SWA were killed in the horrifying incident.
“But the villagers said that they didn’t commit any crime and denied the murder of these five security guards,” Ridha said.
“We asked about it to the villagers, but they claimed of not knowing anything on the death of five security guards. They said that they weren’t committing revenge.”
The villagers also said that they are not in the know of the identities of the five people that were arrested by the police.
“We need to clarify this. The villagers don’t recognize any of the arrested men,” she said.
“We must clarify the identities of the killed security guards as well as the five men that were arrested by the police. We must clarify this now before it upsets the villagers.”
