VIVAnews – Heavy rain falling over Tuban Regency, East Java, for the past few days has caused flash flood in the area. Two villages were inundated namely Kebonagung and Sumurcinde.
The flood hit the area as the soil was no longer able to absorb water following limestone mining and deforestation in the area.
As a result, dozens of houses and streets in the two villages were flooded. The water level reached 50 cm.
A villager, Sukardi, said that the flood was caused by heavy downpours for several hours. Then, flash flood washed away the villages.
“It didn’t take a long for the flood to hit the area. The street connecting Tuban and Bojonegoro was also flooded up to 50 cm for nearly 1 kilometer,” said Sukardi.
The flood also hit hundreds of hectares of paddy fields. The water level in the fields reached 70 cm.
