Provocateurs of Bima Riot Revealed

VIVAnews – Police managed to find the people who provoked the arson of the regent’s office and general election office in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara. The incident led to the release of dozens of prisoners in Bima penitentiary.

“The names are there, but I can’t mention them now.  There are several people.  The provocateur is clear enough,” said Police spokesman, Chief Comm. Boy Rafli Amar, in Jakarta, Friday, Jan 27th.

Police will question several witnesses, among those are from the local government where the crime took place.

Boy confirmed that legal efforts will be continued regarding the incident. “We're focusing on acts of arson and vandalism,” said Boy.

On Thursday, Jan 26, thousands of people who joined the Anti-Mining People Front burned down the regent’s office and the general election office in Bima. The people then moved towards Bima penitentiary.

Previously, the people called for the release of their partners who were arrested in relation with the Sape Port incident on December 24th. 

The situation at the penitentiary was tense until the head of the penitentiary finally obeyed people’s demands and released 43 prisoners who came from Lambu. 

"The 43 prisoners were released and were taken home by the people.  It was done for security purposes,” said Head of Bima Penitentiary, Sukarman Husein.
