VIVAnews – Head of Jakarta Police Public Relations Chief. Comm. Rikwanto, said the Indonesian capital witnesses the rising number of armed robbery.
“Based on data that we have gathered in East and South Jakarta, the statistics of armed robberies [in Jakarta] are going higher,” said Rikwanto.
In East Jakarta, police have secured the robbers of PT Bus in Duren Sawit. At the crime scene, the robbers were able to set gunshots. In South Jakarta, police officers managed to arrest owners of firearms in a traffic inspection. The armed robbers had committed five crimes in the past.
In South Jakarta, the robbers used illegal manufactured firearms.
Three cases of armed robberies in a number of areas in the capital can be examples of many firearms being used in the society, such as in Kedoya Raya, West Jakarta, on Feb 12.
A Bank DKI, located inside the Tax Office in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, and a gas station on Jalan Raya Condet, Batu Ampar, East Jakarta, were also attacked by armed robbers.
“We will intensify our field duties with more focus aimed at armed robbers. We have captured many, though, but we will continue to reveal the case,” he said.
Jakarta Police are now looking into the incidents.
“It is a long way to track the black market [that sells guns]. Based on our data in 2011, there are approximately 78 filed reports of armed robberies,” he said.
