VIVAnews - The Democratic Party said no to the proposed right of interpellation in line with policies on the granting of remission and parole over corruptors and terrorists.
"The proposal will be considered as a sentiment toward siding with corruptors," said Chief of Democratic Party Central Board, Didi Irawadi Syamsuddin, last night, Feb 14.
Didi said the limited granting of remission toward corruptors aims at providing corruptors with deterrent effect.
"Should there be any party trying to refuse the decision, it would be most likely that a gesture of defending corruptors is being displayed."
Earlier, a meeting between Justice and Human Rights Minister Amir Syamsuddin and Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) talked about a remission moratorium targeting corruptors and terrorists, which sparked disputes among house members. However, Amir insisted that the moratorium is important.
A number of house members came up with the right of interpellation. Some lawmakers instead considered the moratorium as human rights violation.
