Anti-Corruption Court Bill Must be Finished

VIVAnews - Head of Constitutional Court Mahfud MD stressed that the Draft Bill on Anti-corruption Court must be prepared by members of the House of Representatives (DPR) of 2004-2009 period.

"The decision is aimed at the current period," said Mahfud MD on Tuesday, Feb 10.

The Constitutional Court had on December 2006 decided that the current anti-corruption court system was not in line with the Constitution. Therefore, the Constitutional Court ordered DPR to prepare Law on Anti-corruption Court within three years.

According to Mahfud, the preparation of the Draft Bill cannot be carried out by DPR members of the latter period. "It can't be done. There must be a new policy," he said.

Mahfud also said that if DPR could not prepare the Draft Bill in time, the anti-corruption court will be dismissed. However, Mahfud is still optimistic that DPR would finish the Draft Bill soon. "It is impossible to remove the anti-corruption court. DPR is still preparing [the Draft Bill]. If it's not completed, there is still Governmental Regulation in Lieu of Law," he said.
