VIVAnews – The Indonesian Army Headquarters supplied comments on the attack taking place at the funeral home of the Army Hospital (RSPAD) of Gatot Soebroto, Central Jakarta, early last Thursday.
Army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Wiryantoro, said the offensive was not anticipated by the guards.
“The funeral home was guarded by security guards, whereas the on-duty soldiers were guarding the hospital's main room,” Wiryantoro told VIVAnews, on Thursday, Feb 23.
He said the funeral home is available for the public. It has different management from the Army Hospital.
“The funeral home and the hospital are separated by a wall,” he added.
He said the security guards did not suspect that the attack claiming the lives of three could happen. When the incident occurred, the scene was packed with people going in and out of the mortuary.
“After all, the number (of the attackers) was quite a lot and there weren’t enough security guards,” he said.
Nevertheless, the Army Headquarters will look into this incident further.
Earlier, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Priyo Budi Santoso, said the attack at the Army Hospital is an insult to the nation’s security.
“It is a shame, an insult to our security forces. We cannot allow this to happen, especially in hospitals,” said Priyo, yesterday.
