VIVA – Every August 10, Indonesia commemorates the National Technology Awakening Day (Hakteknas). This year, the government focuses on technology in the food and agriculture sectors and aims to build the food security of the Republic of Indonesia.
Initially, August 8 was the day of commemoration was the inaugural flight of the N-250 Gatotkaca aircraft on August 10, 1995 in Bandung. This event became a milestone of National Technology Awakening Day.
The plane is the work of the Indonesian as the proof of succeeded in developing an innovative science and technology spirit and then produces proud national innovation products that reach the international realm.
It shows the importance of attention, interest, and awareness of the development of science and technology and innovation in national development.
Every year at the commemoration of the National Hakteknas, themes and sub-themes that are relevant to the people of that time, related to Indonesia in the field of science and technology and the innovations produced.

Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Laksana Tri Handoko said this year was the 27th anniversary of Hakteknas. This time the Hakteknas commemoration carries the theme Research and Innovation for Food and Energy Sovereignty.
“The government realizes if these two things are essential and become a big challenge. The topic of food raised because BRIN pays great attention to food and agricultural research,” said Laksana Tri Handoko.
According to Laksana Tri Handoko, BRIN is trying to carry out various studies to optimize food productivity. Then, create superior varieties, provide protection as research and other innovations.
BRIN has developed many materials derived from microbes; the main thing is how we can ensure the supply of superior seeds from Genomics no longer produces conventional crosses.
