Egypt Interested to Be Host for the 2036 Olympics

VIVA – Minister of Sports, Ashraf Sobhi said that Egypt is interested and want to be the host for the 2036 Olympics. It was conveyed on the sidelines of a meeting with the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach in Cairo last weekend.

"President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi has given Egypt permission to run as the host of the 2036 Olympics," Ashraf Sobhi remarked as quoted by AFP.

If successful with the submission, Egypt could become the first Arab or African country to host the Olympics.

"Egypt has a solid sports infrastructure and could host the Olympics, this would be historic," Thomas Bach remarked at the Press Conference.



It is known that Egypt will become a rival to Indonesia because Indonesia has previously submitted to be the host for the 2036 Olympics. According to the government, the Olympics will be held in the National Capital Nusantara (IKN) soon.

Egyptian officials announced earlier this month that Egypt, Greece, and Saudi Arabia were discussing plans to co-host the 2030 World Cup.

Egypt 2019 hosted the Africa Cup of Nations as well as the world handball championship last year during the pandemic.
