On the other side, Jokowi said that currently, Indonesia has held a majority stake of 51 percent of PT Freeport Indonesia after conducting very difficult negotiations.

"Right now, the majority of Freeport is owned by Indonesia, not by an American company anymore. After three years of very difficult negotiations, until now, Indonesia already holds a majority stake of 51 percent," President Jokowi remarked.

The President admitted that he previously did not want to visit PT Freeport Indonesia because the company does not belong to Indonesia.

“Now 98 percent (PT Freeport employees) are Indonesians, not foreigners. And I’m also happy because 40 percent of it is Papuans, the people of Papua," the President said.
