VIVA – Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly hopes the bill of Second Amendment to Law No.35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics to be completed before President Joko Widodo retires.
"This is a bill that has been discussed for a long time and even it has been decided at meetings in the House's Commission III several times. I hope it would be accelerated and resolved," Minister Laoly stated during a working meeting at the parliament complex, on Wednesday.
Hence, Minister Laoly reminds Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Bambang Wuryanto said that the bill has been discussed together for a long time. Thus, according to him, its completion needs to be accelerated.
The minister expected that the narcotics bill can be finalized before President Joko Widodo's administration ends in 2024. This is because the bill is a legacy, so the impact will also be on management.

"So, we have passed the Criminal Code. This is the legacy of Commission III. We have passed the Corrections Law. This is a big law that is the legacy of all of us Commission III," the minister added.
According to him, if the Narcotics Bill can be completed, it will be a significant achievement, "If we can complete the Narcotics Law, this is truly a significant achievement in including strengthening the integrity of the criminal system. So, we hope we can do it."
Therefore, Minister Laoly admitted that he would continue to approach ministries/institutions and the House of Representative to compile an inventory list of problems for several bills that are still pending and expected to be completed.
"For example, the Civil Procedure Law Bill has entered Commission III, we hope it can be scheduled again soon," said Minister.
"Then, there is the draft law on Industrial Design which is the domain of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Because this is about intellectual property rights. This will be discussed with Commission VI," he said.
