A Serial Sperm Donor Sued After Becomes Father of 550 Children

VIVA – A serial sperm donor from the Hague, Netherlands has been sued after being accused of fathering 550 children in various countries, also misleading clinics, and endangering children psychologically.

Jonathan Jacob Meijer, 41, will appear in Netherlands court in April after being charged with lying to hundreds of women about the number of children that he had.

The Donorkind Foundation brought the case to court in an attempt to stop Meijer from donating any more sperm. It also wants to know about the clinics where he has donated so far and also demands that all his donated sperm in storage be destroyed if not reserved for a mother.

“We are taking action against this man because the government is doing nothing. He has a global reach through the internet and he does business with large, international sperm banks,” DonorKind Foundation chairman Ties van der Meer said.



Meanwhile, The Dutch Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology first raised the alarm about Meijer in 2017. But by that point, he had fathered almost 102 children in the Netherlands after donating sperm in 10 clinics.

Even he was later blacklisted in his home country but resorted to donating sperm abroad instead. It is known, he offers his sperm services through social media and websites.

A Dutch woman named Eva, who, in 2018, gave birth to a child conceived with Meijer's sperm and said she felt sick thinking of the consequences Meijer's action will have on her child, “If I had known he had already fathered more than 100 children I would never choose him,” Eva said.

Many mothers have told him that he needs to stop but nothing helps. So, Eva thinks going to court is the only option. Then, therefore, she and the Donorkind Foundation hope that their court case will result in the destruction of Meijer's sperm that remains in storage.

A report suggests that the mental health of sperm donor children like this one could be affected if they find out that they have hundreds of half-siblings. This is because they worry about incest and inbreeding.
