Indonesia Wants to Bridge Ukraine-Russia Peace Efforts, Minister Says

Jakarta – The Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia wants to bridge for the peace efforts between Ukraine-Russia.

"We are in a position to respect international provisions, our foreign policy stance is very clear. But we still maintain good relations with all parties, and we always try, we try to be a mediator, to be a bridge," said Minister Prabowo Subianto after the meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Monday.

Minister said that Indonesia continues to pay close attention to the global situation, including the conflict between Ukraine-Russia which continues to change rapidly. He emphasized Indonesia's readiness to become a bridge in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

He informed that he would provide a detailed report to President Widodo on the current situation in Ukraine and Russia. The President has also given instructions on what the Indonesian Defense Minister should do regarding the current global situation.

"There are several things that we received instructions from the President and I think we will implement them," he said.

During the President's meeting with Minister Prabowo Subianto, in addition to discussing the situation in Ukraine and Russia, the Minister also reported the results of his visit to Europe, including attending the 2023 International Paris Air Show exhibition at Le Bourget, Paris, France.

In addition, the Defense Minister also reported to Jokowi on the number of countries, especially in Africa, that requested assistance for military training.

"I think we will follow up later. So, the point is that we are watching these developments so that we are not caught off guard and can plan ahead," Minister Subianto said.
