President Jokowi Condemns Israel for Attacking Gaza Hospital

Riyadh – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) condemned the Israeli military action that attacked Al Ahli hospital in Gaza on Tuesday. According to him, the attack could cause hundreds of civilian casualties such as children and women.

"Indonesia strongly condemns the violence that occurred in Gaza, because it has caused suffering and more civilian casualties, including women and children," the Head of State said in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday.

The Head of State said that the Israeli attack on Al Ahli Hospital was a violation of international humanitarian law.

President Jokowi also said he had ordered Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi to attend a meeting of ministers from countries belonging to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss Israel's attack on Palestine.

"This is obviously a violation of international humanitarian law, so I asked the Foreign Minister to attend the extraordinary meeting of OIC ministers in Jeddah and continue to seek the evacuation of Indonesian citizens who are currently still constrained by field conditions," President Jokowi explained.

The President emphasized that Indonesia will not remain silent on what Israel is doing to the Palestinians. 

"What happened in the Gaza Strip is a crime against humanity that must be ended immediately,"

President Widodo also asked all countries in the world to stand with Palestine and support Palestinian independence. He supports justice to be upheld in the land of Palestine.

"Now is the time for the world to unite to build global solidarity to resolve the Palestinian issue fairly and using agreed international parameters," the President remarked. 

President Jokowi concluded: "This will continue to be voiced by Indonesia on various occasions and international forums including in bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia and the ASEAN-GCC Summit."
