Hundreds of Indonesians Became Victims of Japan Earthquake

Japan – The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that 105 Indonesian citizens (WNI) had to evacuate due to the earthquake that hit Ishikawa prefecture, Japan on Monday, January 1, 2024.

Judha Nugraha, Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that they were spread across several points, such as 53 people in Ogi, 25 people in Suzu, and 27 people in Saika.

"Based on the latest communication from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo with the public, new information was found that there were several Indonesian citizens who were in refugee camps and needed logistical assistance," Nugraha stated on Wednesday.

Nugraha also remarked that network problems made it difficult for them to communicate. His party admitted that they would send aid to Indonesian citizens who had fled.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo will immediately send emergency logistical assistance to Indonesian citizens in these places," he informed. 

Nugraha said that this number was added to the 9 Indonesian citizens who had previously evacuated, namely 6 students in Toyama, 1 Indonesian citizen in Noto, and 2 interns in Ishikawa.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo's self-report system recorded that there were 1,315 Indonesian citizens living in Ishikawa Prefecture.

Previously, around 50 Indonesian tourists were stuck at Gala Yuzawa Station, Niigata because the Shinkansen stopped operating.

However, now tourists can continue their journey and the Shinkansen is operating again. For your information, an earthquake struck Ishikawa prefecture, Japan, on Monday. 

The earthquake was also felt in Niigata, Toyama, and Fukui prefectures, Nagano, Gifu, Tokyo, Yamagata, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, Tottori, Iwate, Miyagi, and Akita.
