However, when it comes to a healthier morning beverage, tea emerges as the winner. This drink is highly recommended as a better alternative to coffee for morning consumption.

Although both coffee and tea offer health benefits, there are specific reasons why some people consider tea a better choice in the morning compared to coffee.

According to nutritionist Avni Kaul, there are five reasons why tea is much better consumed in the morning than coffee.

1. Reduced Caffeine Content

While caffeine provides energy, its excessive consumption can be harmful. Tea typically contains less caffeine than coffee, offering better benefits to the body.

"Tea usually has less caffeine than coffee. Although caffeine can provide an initial energy boost, too much of it can lead to restlessness, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Tea provides a lighter caffeine intake, thus reducing the risk of these side effects, Kaul explained.

2. Gentle Awakening

Many people feel a bit sluggish when waking up in the morning. Coffee provides an instant energy rush, which may not be ideal as the body is still feeling sleepy in the morning.

"Tea contains an amino acid known as L-theanine, which has a calming effect and can counterbalance the stimulating effects of caffeine. This can result in a more gradual and gentle wake-up experience compared to the sudden jolt from coffee," Kaul stated.

3. Hydration

Dehydration can be a chronic issue with coffee if not managed properly, especially in winter when fluid intake tends to decrease.

Coffee acts as a diuretic, increasing urine production and potentially causing dehydration. In contrast, tea contributes to hydration, as it is mostly composed of water. Staying hydrated in the morning is crucial for overall health.

4. Increased Antioxidants

Tea, especially green tea, is rich in antioxidants that offer various health benefits, including supporting the immune system and protecting cells from damage. While coffee also contains antioxidants, the type and amount may differ.

5. Gastric Sensitivity

Coffee may be more acidic than tea, causing stomach discomfort for some individuals. Tea tends to be gentler on the stomach, making it a preferred choice for those sensitive to acidity or digestive issues.

In conclusion, the choice between coffee and tea in the morning depends on individual preferences, caffeine tolerance, and health considerations. Moderation is crucial, and paying attention to the body's response to each beverage can help find the most suitable morning routine.
