Minister Sumadi Praises VKTR's Efforts in Indonesian EV Acceleration

Central Java –VKTR Mobility Technology is building the first commercial electric vehicle (EV) facility in Indonesia, a move that has been appreciated by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi. He believes that VKTR's facility can accelerate electrification in Indonesia.

"In forming an EV ecosystem, synergy and collaboration starting from commercial electric vehicles such as buses, trucks, and taxis are necessary. Therefore, the Government has a mandatory to support this cooperation process," Minister Sumadi stated in a statement on Tuesday.

The Minister conveyed the Indonesian government's commitment to increasing the unconditional emissions reduction target from 29 percent to 31.89 percent, and the conditional target from 41 percent to 43.20 percent.

These targets are outlined in the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (ENDC) document.

"To achieve the emission reduction target, the Transportation Ministry has committed to promoting the development of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle (KBLBB) industry for domestic and even global market needs. As of January 22, 2024, the number of KBLBB based on issued Type Approval Certificates is 122,630 units," Minister Sumadi explained.

Through government and business cooperation, the construction of the largest motor vehicle testing and certification center in Southeast Asia has also been undertaken, namely the Proving Ground located at the Roadworthy Testing and Motor Vehicle Certification Agency (BPLJSKB) in Bekasi, West Java.

With the construction of the BPLJSKB Bekasi Proving Ground, type testing, which has been conducted abroad, can now be carried out in Indonesia.

"The government hopes that by stimulating electric vehicles, it will increase energy efficiency and conservation in the transportation sector, as well as achieve clean air quality and environmental friendliness, and most importantly, reduce dependence on fuel imports," the Minister informed.

Furthermore, Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that the construction of this factory has an extraordinarily high domestic content level, reaching around 40 to 70 percent.
