The embassy stated that Japan is disregarding global concerns over this action, neglecting the worries of its own citizens and the protests of the international community by continuing to discharge radioactive water into the ocean, which could potentially cause radioactive contamination.

"We express great dissatisfaction with this," said the Chinese embassy in its statement, as reported by Antara on Thursday.

Japan began releasing the fourth phase of wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant on Wednesday.

This phase is planned to continue until March 16, with TEPCO, the plant operator, intending to discharge 7,800 tons of wastewater into the Pacific Ocean.

In the statement, China continues to urge Japan to seriously address both domestic and international concerns about this action.

Additionally, they request Japan to collaborate with other countries in establishing a long-term monitoring system and to responsibly and constructively dispose of treated water.

The disposal of treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant began in August, October, and November 2023. During the first phase, Japan discharged approximately 1.34 million tons of treated water into the ocean, despite opposition from neighboring countries and local fishermen.

During the fiscal year 2023, ending on March 31, more than 31,000 tons of mildly radioactive water are estimated to have been released. This process is expected to take at least thirty years.
