Jakarta – Indonesian Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatics Nezar Patria reminded the public to strengthen personal data protection to anticipate the threat of cyber crime which is increasing from year to year.
He said along with the increasing threat of cybercrime, the government has presented Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection (PDP Law) which is expected to increase public awareness regarding the importance of protecting personal data in the digital space.
"It's hoped that more people will understand their rights and obligations regarding personal data. As individuals, we must maintain our own cybersecurity, including not violating other people's rights and personal domains," Patria said in a statement on Monday.

He further revealed that currently the industries that are the main targets of cyber crime are industries engaged in managing personal data or industries involved in a wide ecosystem and have the potential to experience personal data leaks.
Referring to the National Cyber Security Index (NCSI), Indonesia is actually in the fifth position for the level of cyber security in the ASEAN region. Despite being in the top five as a country with good cybersecurity in ASEAN, vigilance should not be lowered and instead must be increased.
"There are three steps prepared by the Ministry of Communication and Information, so cybersecurity in Indonesia can be maintained and improved," Patria remarked.
First, increasing the use of cloud computing-based services. Second, carry out digital transformation. Third, strengthening public awareness of cyber attacks.
Maintaining personal data security is part of the government's cybersecurity measures. Therefore, Patria also reminded the public not to underestimate their personal data and understand the importance of privacy.
