Indonesia Plans IDR 300 Trillion for Free Nutritious Meal Program Next Year

Jakarta, VIVA – Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, revealed that the government will allocate IDR 300 trillion for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program in 2026.
This is an increase from this year’s allocation of IDR 171 trillion.
Pandjaitan stated that based on a study conducted by DEN, there are several impactful government projects currently underway, one of which is the Free Nutritious Meal Program for children in school.
“We’re allocating around IDR 171 trillion this year and approximately IDR 300 trillion next year,” he said on Thursday (June 12).

He explained that the MBG program targets 82.9 million children and is expected to contribute between 0.01 to 0.26 percent to economic growth.
According to the 2026 Macroeconomic Framework and Fiscal Policy Guidelines (KEM-PPKF), the National Nutrition Agency, which runs the MBG Program, is allocated a budget of IDR 217.86 trillion.
Earlier, Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Dadan Hindayana, said the MBG Program’s monthly budget will rise to IDR 28 trillion in 2026.
This means the annual funding requirement would reach IDR 336 trillion.
“The current estimate is IDR 25 trillion per month to reach 82.9 million beneficiaries in 2025, since we’ve already received a budget of IDR 71 trillion. Next year, we will need IDR 28 trillion per month,” he said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Monday (Feb 24).
