Transportation Masterplan Should Be Revised

VIVAnews - The Special Territory of Jakarta government is requested to study macro transportation pattern (PTM), the master plan of the capital's transportation system. The study should also consider the balance between the total area of roads and the growth of the number of vehicles in Jakarta.

Head of Jakarta Transportation Council, Edie Toet Hendratno, said that the current master plan is no longer suitable for traffic development in Jakarta. "The transportation master plan should be revised as soon as possible," he said.

The master plan revision, said Hendratno, may start by restricting the number of vehicles in the city due to the uncontrolled vehicle growth of nine percent per year. Meanwhile, the growth of roads in Jakarta is only around one percent per year.

Data of Special Territory of Jakarta Agency shows that the number of private vehicles in Jakarta in 2007 reached 5.7 million units.

The master plan review should also be followed by improvement of discipline on the road.

The Macro Transportation Pattern has four scenarios:

1. Full Development Scenario such as the Outer Ring Toll Roads, Tanjung Priok Access Toll Roads, Cikarang - Tanjung Priok Toll Roads, Depok - Antasari Toll Roads, Missink Link, Through Roads and Parallel Roads.

2. Full Development Scenario and Construction of six Intracity Toll Roads

3. Full Development Scenario and construction of six intracity tollroads as well as public transportation development (15 busway lines, monorail and mass rapid transportation)

4. Full Development Scenario and construction of six intracity tollroads and public transportation development as well as traffic restraint implementation.
