VIVAnews - The global economic crisis is starting to affect the fuel consumption in Indonesia.

Sales and Marketing Director of Pertamina, Achmad Faisal, explained that consumption of premium fuel that was usually 58,000 kiloliters per day is now about 50,000 kiloliters per day. Consumption of diesel fuel that was usually 70,000 went down to 60,000 kiloliters per day.

“The decline occurred since after this past Eid el-Fitr,” he said at Pertamina Headquarters, Jakarta, Friday, Nov 28.

With such condition, Pertamina experience losses because fuel supply stock is met but consumption falls. Pertamina has been preparing a fuel supply stock to last more than 20 days.

Despite experiencing losses because fuel consumption is lower, Pertamina is still expanding their fuel distribution network. Next year, Pertamina will build 20 new fuel stations in Java.

The investment required for one fuel station is around Rp 1-5 billion (US$83,000 to US$418,000). However, for the building to take place, Pertamina has to obtain permission from the local governments.
