VIVAnews - Indonesian House of Representatives’ Budgeting Committee head Harry Azhar Aziz is concerned about the country’s economy that has yet to see any improvement. He also criticizes the government and expects a change in next years’ budgeting mechanism.

“In fact, we’re in a worst condition compared to Soeharto era,” Aziz said in a discussion session on Pancasila economy at Megawati Institute on Wednesday, June 30.

In the period of former President Soeharto, unemployment and poverty rates were four and 11 percent respectively. Today, unemployment rate has reached 8 percent while poverty is revolving around 13 percent.

“I think it’s because the current government always sets a low target with high budget,” he said.

The tendency goes inversely against the corporate principle of minimizing budget in operational processes.

Aziz assumes the government has not been doing the right thing, which is indicated by their inability to allocate effective budgets.

“I’ve asked for an explanation but I didn’t get a satisfying answer”.

Aziz uses the imbalance distribution of income per capita and economic activities to illustrate the failure. “Sixty percent in Java, twenty five percent in Sumatra, ten percent in Kalimantan, ten percent in Sulawesi and one percent in Papua, the rest are low,” he said.

The finding has therefore suggested the absence of principles of justice in budgeting. “It needs to be understood. Otherwise, this country and its people will crumble down”.
