VIVAnews - The Jakarta international airport Soekarno-Hatta was built to accommodate 22 million passengers. However, 43.5 million passengers have been in and out of the nation's largest airport along 2010.

The Soekarno-Hatta airport is deemed overcapacity. In fact, PT Angkasa Pura II, which is responsible of the airport's management, is willing to make Soekarno-Hatta a world-class airport.

Angkasa Pura II is drawing up a grand design of the airport which includes the development of more runways.

"The airport will set up more runway as well as develop a railroad system," Director of Technical Operations of Angkasa Pura II, Solahudin Rafi, on Tuesday, Jan 11.

For the time being, the airport serves 56 takeoffs and landings per hour given the current double runways. During the Lebaran, the airport pushes the hourly flights to 60 hours. Additional runways will enable the airport to handle 100 hours of flights per hour.

As for the construction of airport railroad system, Deputy Minister of Transportation, Bambang Susantono, explained that the ministry is still preparing the redesigning of the runways.

"Japan, China and PT Railing Indonesia have a great chance to invest," he said.
