Benchmark Interest Rate Maintained at 6 Pct

VIVAnews – Bank Indonesia (BI) maintains the benchmark interest rate (BI Rate) at 6 percent.  

This decision was made based on throughout evaluation of the latest progress in the economy. 

BI's Board of Governors viewed that the current BI Rate level is still in accordance with the inflation target set for the future. Moreover, it has anticipated the possible negative effects of global economy towards Indonesia. 

“The Board of Governors will study the risk of global economy and continue maintain the stability of macro economy and financial system as well as providing stimulus to domestic economy,” said BI Governor, Darmin Nasution, today, Dec 8. 

The Board of Governors estimated that economy in 2012 economy will be slowing down following the crisis in Europe and the United States.   The escalation in Europe's debt crisis has triggered high volatility in the global financial market. 

With the weakening of global demand, world’s trading volume and global commodity price keep going down. However, BI's Board of Governors believed that Indonesia will still have solid economy.
