VIVAnews - The General Elections Commission (KPU) launched three strategies to induce people to vote in the 2009 legislative Elections, which will take place on April 9.

Endang Sulastri, Head of Elections Promotion at the Elections Commission said the first strategy will be by kicking off public advertisement. "The ads will underscore the importance of voting in the Elections," said Sulastri on Thursday, Feb. 19.

The promotion will also be carried out through the publication of Elections manual. The manual will be distributed to officers of Subdistrict Electoral Committees, Elections Commission, and Voting Organizing Unit. They are then expected to disseminate the information to the public.

"We've asked them to promote [the Elections] by early March, at the latest," she said.

Afterwards, the Elections Commission will regularly hold meetings with the editors-in-chief of mass media to disseminate the information on the Elections.

Another strategy, said Sulastri, will be by organizing discussions with such governmental institutions as the Department of Domestic Affairs and the Department of Communication and Information.

Technical training will also be provided to the officers of the Elections Commissions in the provinces, regencies and municipalities. The first phase will take place in Makassar, Manado, Balikpapan and Pekanbaru. The next phase will be organized in Batam, Yogyakarta and Mataram.

The final measure that will be taken will aim at religious figures, youngsters, university students, women, entrepreneurs and business executives as well as scholars.
