Indonesia Continues to Finalize Preparations for the G20 Summit

VIVA – The Indonesian government continues to finalize preparations for the event series of the G20 Summit. This event will take place in Bali on November 15 to 16, 2022. President Joko Widodo on Monday, October 3, 2022, led an internal meeting at the Jakarta Presidential Palace to discuss preparations for this prestigious event.

President Jokowi discussed preparations for both substance and physical readiness and the details of the session at the peak of the G20 Summit. This internal meeting was also attended by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.

"From the substance in which it has been stated that Indonesia is one where almost all of the 'working groups' and 'engagement groups' have been completed," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto told to journalists after the internal meeting.

Minister Airlangga added that the results of the G20 Sherpa meeting were also submitted to the President regarding the substance of the economy, health, and finances.

Minister Airlangga also opined that in principle agreement regarding the format and form of the final report will still be discussed in the four rounds of Sherpa meetings as well as content agendas.

"Indonesia hopes that the overall results of the discussion can be simple and summarized in 34 paragraphs and it has already begun to be prepared," Minister Airlangga Hartarto remarked.

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy said that some G20 countries were still pushing for issues related to the Russian military invasion of Ukraine to be part of the joint agreement at the G20 Summit.

"While we want it to be included in the 'leaders declaration'. So from a technical and format point of view, there are still discussions that must be further explored," Airlangga said.

He said that Indonesia would continue to monitor changing global developments and be vigilant to mitigate the implementation of the G20 Summit.

On the other side, Airlangga said that President Joko Widodo plans to visit Bali to directly review the readiness for the implementation of the G20 Summit in detail.

Indonesia carries three priority issues in the G20 Presidency, namely global health architecture, digital transformation, and sustainable energy transition with the main theme "Recover Together Recover Stronger". Indonesia continues to monitor global developments for mitigation at the G20 Summit.
